4) My other office in Birmingham, UK

My other office!

Well! Quite a vast and different atmosphere and a new experience! The big building, where its entrance is just opposite KPMG entrance, its 6 floors, meeting rooms, cafeteria (atrium!), vending machines, pigeon holes (small dedicated shelfs for your mail), a post room, 6 lifts, sitting space booking machines (one book their seat in advance, even on the pwc site!),online time and expense booking, about 600 people, 6-8 assurance groups, seating space together for each group, common sitting area, yellow area for small meetings, discussions, relaxing, career coaches, social gatherings, group parties, christmas parties, hubs (small area for printer, xerox machines, fax, stationaries ), internal mails (peer to peer mails within same office or peer offices) etc.

Technology: Virtual Private Network (VPN) . One can access office network from anywhere with the help of your GUID and PIN.One has a particular application in the laptop! One can access anything as in LAN. Wireless internet cards for a few! Online real time replications!

Office culture: Puntuality (reach before time, and all do), 8-10 hrs of work a day, strict 5 day working, only work during office time (No internet and chatting over phone), regular social gatherings, monitoring of one's objective setting and performances with their career coaches, understand what one wants to do and why!!building a career path, healthy team discussions at all levels and with all levels, friendly interactions with all levels, making coffee, tea etc for all in team (as per turns :)), responsible working even by the lowest level staff (building career seriously :)) etc.
The above characteristics are maybe evident in most of the corporate offices. But since I am coming from a smaller setup at Home I was obviously amazed! So far as culture is concerned, partly not evident anywhere in Corporate India , am sure! We need to pick certain good aspects like planning, management skills, time sense, less of take it easy attitude, people friendly attitudes and am sure India will have the world class , the BEST corporate culture!!
However the greater aspects of Indian people and Indian Professionals including certain drawbacks in my other post 'Indians'...Dont miss it!!!

Although i would love to completely agree with your conclusion, this sort of corporate culture is very much existent in India but seen only in few MNCs around, while its true that people like you and me have much to do in spreading this positive work culture around, thus making the work place very productive and healthy one not sacrificing one self completely in everyway.

Well - The reply is already there.

The culture is already existing in India. Look at some of the top most MNC's of our country. They have the culture. But in a different way.

Our problem is simple - we beleive in authoritarian society - We beleived and we also practice a society with lots of differences unlike the western world where atleast at work place they have a equal opportunities.

We beleive in a caste system - which divides us in every day life - we beleive in Man is stronger than woman (Dont argue on this - that is why you have reservations) - we beleive in reservations at educational places and government offices - Now we also want the same in corporate India too.

Well with so many differences in all parts of your life and when you drop into office - we always believed the master-servant relationship. We believed that he is the bread donor for us. We always beleived in their supremacy. We thought without them we are worthless. We never realised what we are worth. Even Hanuman needs to be told about this. We all are the same sleeping hanumans - We are encircled in our own low self esteem - through which we accept authoritarian superiors and pamper there egos and crib about the way we are treated. You cannot help it until and unless you got the guts to do some thing against it.

So the great work culture in west is not created by itself - they always carry themselves with high pride which is created by the way they are treated worldover due to their purchasing power.

And really a good deal to appreciate the way they treat their co-workers. But mind you grass is not that green - they have more polished ways of suppression rather then a raw and crude ways like us.

So Beware lady.

And finally their high pride seems to be shaking as they started fearing our intelligence and the way we are sweeping their jobs.

So dont expect a fair treatment when you are down there.

London is known for its racism lady - For instance haven't you seen the Big Bro
